Learn to Ply and Finish Your Yarn
(This is the second class of the pair. If you already know how to spin a single strand yarn on a spinning wheel you may join us for the plying class alone.)
When: Scheduled at your cenvience!
Class Description: This is a just beyond beginners class for spinning with a wheel. If you are fascinated with handspun yarn and intrigued by playing with texture and color, and you really want to produce your own yarn to weave, knit or crcohet, this is your class. In this class you will learn to make a two ply yarn from your own singles and how to wash and finish the yarn to make it usable for weaving, knitting or crochet.. Even if it's all sorts of twisty-windy, thick and thin, it will make a beautiful and usable yarn when plyed and finished. If there is time at the end of the course we will have a little play time with other animal fibers. Each student will leave with their own spun yarn and a pattern for using it in either a knitted or crocheted hat. Class size is limited to five, so sign up early.
Prerequisites or Class Prep:
Class Level: Just beyond beginners
Fee: $50 + 6 for materials. The materials fee covers: Sample of singles yarn to be plied in the second class before you ply your own handspun yarn, A knitting and a crochet pattern planned for your lovely textured beginners' yarn, All handouts.

Notes: Spinning Wheels - You may bring one you already own, or use one of the floor models owned by the studio. These wheels will also be available for you to practice on during the week. If you have wool or other animal fiber you want to spin, you may bring it to try out. Please bring 2 to 4 ounces of your hand spun singles to this class. There will be a lunch break from 12 to 1, so plan to bring lunch with you.
Spin Doctor: Spinning Wheel Evaluation and Minor Repairs
When: This is a one to one session scheduled as needed.
Class Description: Whether your wheel has been in the attic for years or is brand new, but just not right somehow, Carol will figure out for you what's there or not there, working or not working. She will do minor repairs on the spot and show you how to adjust and maintain the wheel yourself. She will also advise you on finding replacement parts and useful accessories.
